Island Discovery Tour (Orient Beach Only)

Tour Overview

Experience St. Maarten

Experience the highlights of St. Maarten on our Island Discovery Tour. Your personable and knowledgeable guide will ensure you discover all the island has to offer.
Includes: one beach stop (Orient Beach, or a suitable beach depending on weather/conditions).
Tour duration: 4.5 hours.

The Journey Begins

As you embark on this adventure, enjoy scenic photo opportunities and memorable experiences. As you leave the cruise terminal, your journey begins with a scenic drive through the charming streets of Philipsburg. Along the way, the island’s vibrant character unfolds—colorful buildings, glimpses of turquoise water, and the gentle hum of Caribbean life. Soon, you’ll ascend to a vantage lookout point.

If the skies are clear, prepare for a breathtaking panorama: to the south, the volcanic silhouette of St. Eustatius; the rugged island of Saba, famously known as the home of Kong in the original King Kong movie; the shimmering expanse of Simpson Bay and its tranquil lagoon; and to the north, the serene shores of British Anguilla—all coming into view. It’s a perfect moment to pause, snap photos, and soak in the beauty of the Caribbean horizon.

Simpson Bay — The Heartbeat of the Island

As we cruise through the lively district of Simpson Bay, prepare to be captivated by sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea and the glistening waters of the Simpson Bay Lagoon. During the yachting season (November to March), the marina becomes a dazzling showcase of mega yachts from around the world, adding a touch of glamour to the already stunning landscape.

But Simpson Bay isn’t just about the views—it’s a hub of energy and flavor. The area is packed with restaurants, beach bars, and lounges that cater to every taste.

As we leave Simpson Bay and cross the impressive Causeway Bridge, enjoy sweeping panoramas of the Simpson Bay Lagoon and the marina. This modern bridge, completed and installed in late 2013, features a central swing span that opens for passing vessels and offers excellent vantage points for photographs and island views.

Crossing to the French Side

Next, we visit the Belle Vue Border Monument—the unmistakable gateway from Dutch Sint Maarten into French Saint Martin. This striking monument celebrates the island’s unique dual identity and makes for a perfect photo stop.

Marigot — French Elegance Meets Caribbean Soul

Marigot is a captivating blend of French sophistication and Caribbean charm. As the capital of the French side of Saint Martin, this seaside town offers a delightful escape filled with culture, color, and coastal beauty.

Stroll Through History and Style
Wander the quaint streets lined with pastel-hued colonial buildings, chic boutiques, and open-air cafés. From luxury fashion to local crafts, Marigot’s markets and shops are a treasure trove for every kind of traveler.

Step Back in Time at Fort Louis
Perched above the town, the 18th-century Fort Louis offers panoramic views of Marigot Bay and the surrounding turquoise waters. It’s a perfect spot for history lovers and photo enthusiasts alike.

Savor French-Caribbean Flavors
Indulge in a culinary journey where French gastronomy meets island soul. Whether it’s a buttery croissant from a local boulangerie or fresh seafood with Creole spices, every bite is a celebration.
(45 minutes free time)

Grand Case — The Gourmet Capital of the Caribbean

Drive through Grand Case, widely celebrated as the gourmet capital of the Caribbean, where a charming waterfront strip of bistros, cafés, and upscale restaurants lines the bay—perfect for a leisurely lunch or an evening of fine dining under the stars.

Orient Bay — Sun, Sand & Island Energy

Continue along the coast to Orient Bay, a lively seaside playground known for its wide sandy beach, popular beach clubs, and abundant water-sport options—ideal for sunbathing, snorkeling, or enjoying a vibrant beachfront atmosphere.
(1 hour 30 minutes free time)

Amsterdam Cheese & Liquor Store — A Taste of the Netherlands

As we head back toward the cruise port, we’ll stop at the Amsterdam Cheese & Liquor Store for a delicious taste of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. Sample famous Dutch Gouda and other varieties, browse premium wines and spirits, and pick up souvenirs—from clogs to Delftware and local Guavaberry rum.

Philipsburg — Shop, Stroll, or Relax

Philipsburg, the shopping mecca of the Caribbean, is just a short drive from the cruise terminal and offers duty-free boutiques, jewelry shops, and local crafts for any last-minute purchases. Guests who prefer to remain in Philipsburg may make their own leisurely way back to the port by taxi, water taxi, or a 20-minute stroll, or they can rejoin the group for the short ride back to the cruise terminal or their pickup point.
